Mead Glorious Mead

Kia Ora
Mead also known as Honey Wine, is a beverage that has quenched the thirst of people for over 9000 years! Considered to be the oldest beverage known to man Mead has taken a dip in popularity since reaching it's most popular in the Middle Ages. Only in recent years has Mead started to gain popularity again with traditional brewers and Viking enthusiast alike. When one thinks of Mead for whatever reason, one tends to have no clue what it is or describes this wonderful drink as being too sweet, or strong in alcohol. Some also think Mead is a drink that takes month’s even years to produce and therefore the keen home brewer tends to shy away from attempting to make this age old drink.

Mead does not need to be a drink that’s strong in alcohol or sweeter than your brother in law’s hot coffee that has 10 teaspoons of sugar heaped in it! Mead can be a light beverage with low alcohol and still retain a full bodied aroma that gives you a pleasant feeling in your mouth. As you take your first sip from a well made Mead you’re literally drinking a beverage that was once considered a drink fit only for the Gods, a drink full of flavor and rich in a fruity floral taste. A fruity flavored drink made from Honey sourced from nectar rich plants collected by the humble Honey Bee.

If you get an opportunity to taste this glorious beverage regardless of proof, style and no matter how it looks or where it's made I encourage you to take that first step and wrap you lips around that cup and sip that drink. You'll be surprised and if you're not happy with the contents in that particular bottle, then you'll have to wait for our own KaniKani Mead to be converted....
